Mingato

The coastal settlement of Porto Mingato is located along the coastline of the Candelária parish, in the Madalena municipality. It is part of the Landscape Of The Pico Island Vineyard Culture, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2004. This settlement had access from Canada do Mingato and is connected through the Caminho da Costa to the Porto do Calhau settlement. Comprising a significant number of ruins and narrow alleys, this settlement is associated with a seasonal two-story residence and its production complex – warehouses, wine cellars, and stills – related to the production of wine and brandies. There was a sea access point where the Portinho do Mingato once existed, facilitating the shipment of Pico Wine for export and establishing maritime connections with the Island of Faial. This settlement likely fell into ruins after its abandonment due to the damage caused by the cyclone of 1893.
